For more than ten years the World Bank has hosted an annual exhibition in its Cameroon Office, reaching beyond its traditional role to the vibrant community of Cameroon’s contemporary artists. This year, we bring this celebration to the National Museum. Aujourd’hui, between yesterday and tomorrow, has the artists, sensitive and generous social barometers, tapping into the traditions that surround them while examining and influencing social and technological change.
Nourished by their diverse cultural heritages and by their varied professional trajectories, the artists present Aujourd’hui bring unique cultural references, history and traditions. At the same time, the artworks resonate with shared transnational themes such as the search for identity, poverty, rapid urbanization, unfettered materialism, migration, social tensions, and injustice in all its forms.”
