Maria bifronte Crispal.
Accanto al grande tema dell’icona femminile, c’è l’idea del mondo di oggi, radicalmente trasformato da Internet. Le due tematiche appaiono sotterraneamente collegate tra di loro, come vasi comunicanti. Maria Crispal infatti parla di utero web, lei stessa si pone come “icona connessa”.
Internet si configura come una grande, articolata e polivalente macchina/madre. L’accostamento tra il corpo femminile e un congegno meccanico non è nuovo nella storia dell’arte. Marcel Duchamp con La Sposa messa a nudo nel Grande Vetro ha in fondo reso meccanica la Grande Madre rappresentata da Gustave Courbet in L’origine du monde. Riflettendo sul Grande Vetro Vettor Pisani costruirà un vero e proprio congegno meccanico, Lo Scorrevole. Poi ci sarà la mostra Le macchine celibi di Harald Szeemann. Maria Crispal però lo declina in modo assolutamente inedito, originale e contemporaneo.
La disposizione oracolare dell’opera di Maria Crispal è tale per permettere alla comunità di parlare mediante lei, di divenire corpo ventriloquo, per farsi attraversare da un pensiero e un discorso collettivi.

I progetti, inerenti i temi ambientali degli Obiettivi del Millennio dell’O.N.U., sono stati cofinanziati dalla Comunità Europea e hanno visto la partecipazione di oltre 10.000 studenti in Europa e nell’Africa sub-sahariana.

Maria Bilateral Crispal.
Alongside the theme of the feminine, we have the concept of today’s world, which has been radically altered by the Internet. The two themes appear to be covertly connected, like communicating vessels. In fact, Maria Crispal speaks of the uterus web and defines herself as the “connected icon”.
The Internet is set up as an immense, complex and multi-purpose machine/mother. The juxtaposition of the female body and a mechanical device is not new in the history of art. After all, the bride stripped bare in Marcel Duchamp’s Large Glass turned the Great Mother depicted in Gustave Courbet’s L’Origine du Monde into a machine. Reflecting upon Large Glass, Vettor Pisani built an authentic mechanical device, Lo Scorrevole. Harald Szeemann’s The Bachelor Machines would come later. However, Maria Crispal interprets this concept in a way that
is absolutely pioneering, original and contemporary.
The oracular disposition of Maria Crispal’s work is set in such a way as to allow the community to speak through her, to become a ventriloquial body and let collective thought and discourse pass through her body.

This publication is a work that outlines the artist’s excursus, including her most important performances and the artistic-educational projects she has designed in collaboration with Solstizio.org.
The projects, which involved over 10,000 students from Europe and sub-Saharan Africa, are funded by the European Community and based on the environmental issues of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
